Humble Beginnings

The humble beginnings of this astonishing city take us back in 19th century when railroad industrialist and Florida East Coast Railway owner Henry Flagler hired Luther Halland to search for a convenient settlement in the south of Dania community. Halland together with Swedish immigrant Olaf Zutterland found a cheap and undeveloped piece of land and thought that it has a lot of potential because of its wonderful location. It was then named Halland that later on changed to Hallandale. The community grew with families, schools, churches and farm lands. And as the saying goes, the rest is history.

Since 1947 when Hallandale was reincorporated as a city, it experienced unprecedented growth commercially. The city expanded by taking possession of nearby unincorporated pieces of land along the Atlantic shore. Though skyscrapers and high-end office buildings and condominiums gradually reinstated farming lands, the picturesque and pristine white sand beaches was never replaced but instead was enhanced and upgraded by the locals to attract more visitors and travellers.
